The tiger that inspired my first design was Uporny, a young Amur tiger rehabilitated by WWF and fitted with a collar that transmitted valuable information like his location and eating habits. On his release back into the wild, he refused to leave his transport cage, earning him his name which means ‘stubborn’ in Russian.

Krishna was born to the world’s most famous tigress, Machali, in Ranthambore National Park in India. Shy and weak, Krishna stayed by her mother’s side for her entire childhood and was eventually defeated by her siblings.

But Krishna made a huge come-back – by 2010, she had occupied the largest territory among all the tigresses in Ranthambore, and given birth to the most number of cubs. She is now the new Queen.
